Working at After Gateway

Additional Information

Individuals wishing to be considered for employment as a paraprofessional at After Gateway must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have the ability to read and write in English; and understand and follow directions in English.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have proof of current CPR/First Aid training completed with a recognized national training agency: Red Cross, American Heart Association, national safety council, or the American Safety and Health Institute.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must have no history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children or vulnerable adults.
  • Must be tuberculosis-free and free from communicable diseases.
  • Must have verifiable 1 year experience working with impaired adults.

All persons applying for employment at After Gateway are required to fill out an application for employment, provide three references, and submit to a background check, health care registry check, Medicaid fraud search, and a driving record check. In addition, prospective employees must have a physical exam and TB skin test conducted by a licensed physician that indicates the general physical and mental health of the employee. Prospective employees are responsible for the cost.

All new employees must provide a copy of their high school or college diploma, copies of certifications and training, if relevant to the position, and copies of medical licenses, if any.
No persons who are related to participants will be considered for employment.
Full-time employees work 5 days per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.
Part-time employees work 3 or 4 days per week from 8:30am - 3:30pm.  Substitute employees work as needed week days from 8:30 am - 3:30pm.

All new employees receive orientation training.   


Volunteering with After Gateway

After Gateway welcomes the services of volunteers and student interns. The volunteer coordinator  and/or health care coordinator (depending upon interest area) will supervise volunteers and student interns. Volunteers / Interns will not be left alone with program participants, and will have access only to that confidential information necessary to complete their volunteer service or internship.   Requirements for Volunteers:

  • Volunteers / Interns are required to be at least 16 years of age
  • Must complete an application
  • Must be interviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Must submit to a health care registry check
  • Required to affirm that they have no communicable diseases (and may be subject to a physical and TB test, depending upon their responsibilities);
  • Must present at least one letter of recommendation and a character reference from individuals who are not family members
  • Must complete orientation training (including bloodborne pathogens, seizures, confidentiality, client rights, duties and responsibilities, restrictions on duties, and emergency procedures training).

Volunteers / Interns are held to the same performance standards as regular staff in terms of their relationships with staff, participants, families, and board members. Failure to abide by those standards or to follow After Gateway policies regarding confidentiality and client rights are grounds for termination of the relationship. Failure to follow attendance criteria is also grounds for termination of the relationship.
